Serverless Cloud Computing: A session with Mike Emerick

May 16, 2018 @ 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm CDT

DESCRIPTION

Serverless computing is a new context in cloud computing that allows for managing resources at an abstracted level from a typical OS/server/network stack. Managing, from this context, allows for the deployment and management of software in an elastic fashion quickly and easily. The basic idea being that you can deploy and manage scale-able elastic applications completely in code. In this session we will look at the the assumptions and trade-offs made to facilitate this context. We will take a hands on look at how AWS provides their serverless offering. We can then discuss serverless offerings from Google, Azure and others, as well as what the future of “serverless” computing might look like.

Leading this AWS sponsored session is Michael Emerick, who has logged most of his career in startup organizations, all of which had a heavy emphasis on data analytics. Since, 2012 he has focused exclusively on companies making a transition to distributed analytics and the cloud. He has helped architect this transition for many fortune 15 and smaller organizations. Emerick has help positions such as Systems Architect, Systems Optimization Consultant, and Solution Architect at IBM, and Global Director of Cloud and Data at NTT Security.

Attendees will receive $150 in AWS credit, and AWS swag will be available on a first-come first-serve basis.

Pizza and drinks will be provided.
